What Is a Portfolio? How to Create One?

0

If you look at the dictionary meanings of portfolio, you get:

  1. A large, thin, flat case for loose sheets of paper, such as drawings or maps.
  2. A range of investments held by a person or organization.
  3. Denoting or engaged in an employment pattern which involves a succession of short-term contracts and part-time work, rather than the more traditional model of a single job for life.
  4. The position and duties of a Minister or Secretary of State.

However, those are not the “portfolio” that they want from you when you get asked to hand over one.

The portfolio they want is basically a collection of all of your work, the best ones in particular.

You can say it’s somewhat like a resume, but in addition to all of that, your portfolio should show your skills.

If you want to create a good portfolio, you should definitely include:

A short introduction about yourself.

Your best projects with their context — not just pictures of them. People should see your vision.

What role did you play in each project, and what was your contribution? They can learn your work ethic, personality, and much more with this.

What tools or methods did you use?

What problems did you solve or goals did you achieve?

And finally, your contact info so they can reach out to you.
